Montecristo (NC)

brandcorporateNicaragua

Montecristo (Non-Cuban) is the U.S./non-embargo expression of one of the world’s most famous cigar names—entirely separate from Habanos S.A.’s Cuban Montecristo. In the United States the marca is controlled by Altadis U.S.A. (Imperial Brands / Tabacalera USA), not by STG or General Cigar, which instead hold other legacy names such as Cohiba (NC) and Partagas (NC).

Non-Cuban Montecristo spans Dominican core lines and ambitious Nicaraguan projects. Notable Nicaraguan collaborations include work with the Plasencia family (e.g. Espada-era Nicaraguan puros) and highly rated releases crafted with A.J. Fernandez at San Lotano—including the Montecristo 1935 Anniversary Nicaragua series that earned major Cigar Aficionado recognition. Those partnerships put Montecristo on the same Estelí manufacturing map as many of the industry’s top independent factories.

On Cigar Nexus, Montecristo (NC) is an ownership + production story: Altadis trademark control, multi-country manufacture, and clear separation from the Cuban line that still dominates export markets outside the U.S.
