H. Upmann (Non-Cuban)

brandcorporatethe Dominican Republic

H. Upmann (Non-Cuban) is the U.S.-legal marca that shares a name with one of Cuba's oldest cigar houses (founded 1844 by German banker Hermann Upmann) and almost nothing else in production. Cuban H. Upmann remains a Habanos S.A. brand. The cigars sold in American shops are Altadis U.S.A. / Tabacalera USA products: Dominican volume lines plus Nicaraguan prestige projects. Confusing the two is the same trap as Montecristo or Romeo y Julieta. This node is the Altadis tree, not Havana.

Core U.S. catalog names include Vintage Cameroon, The Banker, 1844 Reserve, Legacy, and related specials such as Herman's Batch (a 2019 Nodal / Tabacalera de García tribute to the founder). Historically those Dominican cigars came from the huge Tabacalera de García campus in La Romana, the same floor long used for non-Cuban Montecristo and Romeo y Julieta. Altadis has also built a parallel Nicaraguan chapter with A.J. Fernandez at San Lotano: H. Upmann Nicaragua by AJ Fernandez (2017), Heritage, anniversary puros, and later AJ-stamped runs as Dominican supply was disrupted. Rafael Nodal is the product-leadership face of those modern blends.

On Cigar Nexus, H. Upmann (NC) sits with Montecristo (NC) and Romeo y Julieta (NC) under Altadis, opposite STG's Cohiba/Partagas/Punch names. Map Tabacalera de García for the Dominican factory story and San Lotano for the AJ Nicaragua lines. Cuban H. Upmann does not appear on this graph.
