Plasencia Cigars

Plasencia Cigars represents five generations of tobacco expertise, with roots dating back to 1865 in Cuba. After the revolution, the family rebuilt in Nicaragua and Honduras, becoming one of the largest independent tobacco growers and manufacturers in the world. Under the leadership of Nestor Plasencia and his sons (including Nestor Andrés Plasencia), the company farms thousands of acres across Nicaragua’s prime regions—Estelí, Jalapa, Condega, and the volcanic island of Ometepe—as well as in Honduras.

For decades Plasencia was the “secret weapon” contract manufacturer behind dozens of famous brands. In 2017 they launched their own highly acclaimed Plasencia 1865 line, beginning with the Alma Fuerte series—Nicaraguan puros showcasing tobacco from multiple regions, aged to perfection, and offered in distinctive vitolas. The family’s vertical integration, from seed to finished cigar, allows unprecedented control over quality and flavor expression. Their Estelí factory (often called The Cathedral) and vast agricultural holdings make them a central pillar of the modern Nicaraguan (and broader Central American) cigar industry.
